Abstract

Few studies have looked at the innovation process in the early stages of new business ventures in the context of business networks. Reporting on eight years of development of a new venture, we examine how the development of initial business relationships in an ever-changing business network affects technological innovation. We conclude that technological innovation is contingent on the development of business relationships that are a critical mechanism permitting a new venture not only to access but also to produce knowledge essential for innovating. For management this implies the need to strike a judicious balance between internal focus and closure to produce novel solutions and external focus and openness to experiment in business relationships.

Abstract This paper presents a simple and effective Genetic Algorithm (GA) for the two-stage capacitated facility location problem (TSCFLP). The TSCFLP is a typical location problem which arises in freight transportation. In this problem, a single product must be transported from a set of plants to meet customers demands, passing out by intermediate depots. The objective is to minimize the operation costs of the underlying two-stage transportation system thereby satisfying demand and capacity constraints of its agents. For this purpose, a GA is proposed and computational results are reported comparing the heuristic results with those obtained by two state-of-the-art Lagrangian heuristics proposed in the literature for the problem سجاد شنبه 9 مرداد 1395 ساعت 09:47
